vAvatar: Easily embed Viddler avatars
In order to make it easier for developers to include Viddler avatars in their applications, we’re introducing a simple service called “vAvatar”. To include an avatar, just use an image tag like this:
<img src="http://lab.viddler.com/services/avatar/USERNAME" />
Just replace “USERNAME” with the username whose avatar you want to display. For example, here’s mine, using vAvatar:
Is there anything else you’d like vAvatar to do? Let us know in the comments.

Dude, where’s the hcard on Viddler profile pages? Beyond just grabbing the avatar through this kind of URL convention, if you offer hcard, we could easily pull the avatar image URL from the page if someone uses their Viddler profile URL to sign into a DiSo-compatible site… etc.
Just sayin’!

Chris: We definitely need to be more microformat conscience on Viddler, so good point on that. I’ll create some tickets for our next push to include a few adjustments to our profile pages, friends lists, etc.

Whilst I agree that microformats would awesome, what I’d really like from avatars would be some convention on sizing etc along the lines of what Chris proposed twelve months ago. hCard would make them easier to grab, but a 56×56px image doesn’t do much for me in terms of re-use.
And even better, obviously, would be for Viddler to offer to use avatars from some other service or specified hCard. Twitter is currently the only service I know that offers what I like to refer to as big fuck-off avatar availability. And they don’t do so in a consistent manner. Would be nice for someone to lead the way. Would be especially nice if it were my favourite video posse
